Charles Hotson Ebden

Charles Hotson Ebden was born in South Africa. He migrated to Sydney in 1832. In 1835 he became a stock breeder and pastoralist. In 1839 he commenced buying and selling land for profit.

He represented Port Phillip in the Legislator of New South Wales as a supporter of the Port Phillip Separationists and against convict transportation to the colonies. When Port Phillip area achieved separation from NSW to form the colony of Victoria in 1851 he was appointed Auditor General. Subsequently he held various other ministries and sat for many years in the colonies Legislative Assembly.
